“Big Mood Tennyson” in these two sorrow songs. A calmer, sadder grief here. Neither angry nor passionate. (But other songs are and will be.) The figures/analogies Tennyson draws (on) here are worth some thinking: servants of a dead master (XX.1–4), (orphaned?) children (XX.13-20), a mother linnet (XXI.25-28).
